Fondazione Turati in Gavinana is a non-profit, private rehabilitation center and extended care facility offering inpatient and limited outpatient rehabilitation as well as skilled nursing to adult neurological and orthopedic patients. It is located in central Italy in the region of Tuscany, the seat of the Italian Renaissance. Tuscany is noted for its art and culture, its agricultural products, and its wine and cheese production. Tuscany’s capital is Florence, a world-famous tourist destination. Other cities of note in Tuscany include Siena, Pisa, Lucca, and Pistoia, and all are within 1-2 hour’s drive of the clinic. In addition to the facility in Gavinana, the Fondazione operates rehabilitation facilities in Zagarolo, near Rome, and in Vieste, a town in the southern region of Puglia.
This location also offers a unique opportunity to work with kids at Camp Dynamo. Jennifer Monaco (Pacific U.), Brianna Anderson, and Sharayah Jung (both U. of Kentucky) participate in pool recreational therapy with a camper at Dynamo Camp, a facility in San Marcello Pistoiese (Tuscany) founded by American actor Paul Newman in 2007. The camp also provides archery, horseback riding, a climbing wall, an obstacle course, canine obedience training and other activities annually to about 1,000 children with terminal or severe chronic diseases. Volunteering at Dynamo Camp is part of the service learning commitment of students interning at Fondazione Turati Gavinana.Download Brochure
